Beach Assessment Tax

Our beaches - that probably attracted you to Dewey Beach in the first place - suffer erosion during the inevitable storms, and we periodically replenish the beach with sand dredged from offshore. While the federal government is a major contributor to the required funding for this, property owners do their share by paying a beach replenishment tax to the town at a rate of $.40 per $100 of assessed value. Dewey Beach does not assess a property tax at this time - the only tax mandatory for all property owners is the beach replenishment tax (other taxes and fees will apply if you rent your property).

In October of 2021, the Dewey Beach Town Council voted to change the billing date of the beach tax. Previously, this billing would be done at the end of the year. Property owners would receive their beach tax bill in the fall, with a due date of December 31st. Effective in 2022, this billing will be done in the spring, with a due date of June 1st. If your mortgage company or bank had been paying this tax automatically for you, it is likely that you will need to contact them to clarify the new billing year, so they will know when to submit payment on your behalf. The Town of Dewey Beach will only send bills to property owner mailing addresses - we will not bill your mortgage company directly.

You may pay your beach tax by submitting a check by mail payable to Town of Dewey Beach, to Dewey Beach Town Hall, 105 Rodney Ave, Dewey Beach DE 19971. You may also pay online by clicking here. Once at the online payment portal, enter your information in the second box marked "Tax Account Information" to look up and pay for any balance due.
