Winter Weather Alert

A snow event has been forecasted for Dewey Beach this weekend. There is potential for significant snowfall, snow accumulation, as well as freezing rain and ice. We encourage residents and visitors to keep an eye on the National Weather Service for the most up-to-date information. Below are additional details to help prepare for winter weather:

  • Text “DEWEY” to 24639 to register for Code Red alerts from the Town of Dewey Beach. We’ll be updating the public via Code Red on important details specific to Dewey, such as road conditions, closures, and plowing.
  • Please avoid parking on the street wherever possible to ensure plowing can be completed quickly and effectively. As always, the Police Station parking lot and King Charles Ave towards Rehoboth Beach will be prioritized in the event fire or EMT vehicles must come into Dewey. Plowing is a shared effort between DelDOT and the Dewey Beach Maintenance Department. We appreciate your patience as these teams often work around the clock to keep the roads clear. The Maintenance Department will NOT be plowing driveways.
  • For power outages or downed power lines, please contact Delmarva Power.
  • Please ensure your home is properly winterized. If you are out of town, recruit help from a neighbor or property management company to take steps to prevent freezing pipes.
  • Are you a property owner who is out of town for the off-season? This is a great time to register for Winter Watch.
  • For weather-related closures or delays, Dewey Beach Town Offices will adhere to Sussex County Government’s operating schedule. We will update the public on these delays or closures via social media, our website, and Code Red.
  • For emergencies, dial 911. For non-emergency police, call the Dewey Beach Police Department at (302) 227-1110. Questions or concerns for Town staff? Contact us here.
